Description

Whenever I describe surrealism to someone who has never heard of it before, I usually correlate it to the dreams we have at night, how the subconscious mind can provide imagery unlike anything you’ve seen while you’re awake. I wanted this issue to feel like one of those dreams you can’t seem to put into words. When I think of surrealism, my mind instantly goes to filmmaker David Lynch. Lynch is my favorite director of all time, and I believe almost all his films invoke a surreal feeling. From non-traditional to downright grotesque, his imagery, combined with a lack of concern for reality, allows his work to be classified as surrealism. With this issue, I really wanted to celebrate the absurd and the unconventional. The elements in life and art that aren’t surface-level. Issue 4 is meant to be weird and irrational, obscene and avant-garde. It’s meant to force you to take a closer look within yourself and search for those surreal aspects of your being.
